16. THE BUTTERFLY
Doux Sourire
7/20/2026
I earned these wings.
I always wanted a butterfly tattoo.
Not because it is delicate.
Not because it looks pretty in Pinterest.
Not because it is trending.
But because it resembles me.
For years I carried this quiet image inside my heart- a Butterfly.
Soft, simple but strong.
A symbol of transformation.
A symbol of becoming.
Today, I got it.
Exactly the way I imagined it.
Behind my right ear- subtle, sharp, powerful.
Personal.
Not loud.
A place where it feels like a little secret between me and myself- visible only when I choose to show it.
It took Eight minutes.
Eight minutes. That’s all.
Eight minutes to ink what took years of doubt, discipline, sweat, courage, and silent battles to build.
The pain? Nothing.
Of course it was nothing.
I train in MMA.
I lift heavy weights.
I show up at the gym even on days I do not feel like.
I have crossed oceans.
I have stood on ship decks in rough weather.
I have rebuilt myself from inside out.
And during that, I did something else.
I started learning Spanish.
I began showing up to class regularly.
Learning new words.
Forming sentences.
Speaking even when I was not confident.
Using my spare time to build a new skill instead of wasting it.
Choosing growth instead of comfort.
Every new word I learned made me feel stronger.
Every sentence I formed made me feel capable.
It gave me quiet satisfaction- the kind that does not need applause.
And while I was building myself in one way, I kept challenging myself in others.
I learned how to drive.
I took driving lessons for 15 days. I passed my driving test. Then with Smith, I started practicing almost every evening.
At first, I was terrified.
Every turn felt intimidating. Every busy road made my heart race. I questioned myself more than once.
But I kept showing up.
Day after day. Drive after drive.
Now, I can feel the fear slowly giving the confidence.
I am still learning.
I am still improving.
But every time I get behind the wheel, I remind myself that confidence is not something you wait for.
It is something you earn by doing the scary thing over and over again.
A needle for Eight minutes was not going to shake me.
There was a time I called myself a “below average housewife.”
I shrank myself.
I believed I was ordinary.
I believed my world was small.
But I was wrong.
I chose growth.
I chose strength.
I chose discipline.
I chose to write my stories instead of living quietly inside someone else’s expectations.
I chose to travel. To experience. To expand.
No one handed me confidence.
I built it.
Rep by rep in the gym.
Punch by punch in training.
Word by word in my blogs.
Clase by clase in Spanish.
Voyage by voyage across the sea.
This butterfly is not so soft.
It is a proof of survival.
Proof of evolution.
Proof that I refused to stay in my cocoon.
And when I looked into the mirror after it was done, I didn’t see decoration.
I saw alignment.
For the first time, my outside matched my inside.
This is not the story of a woman who realized she was never small- she was just becoming.
I earned these wings.
And I am not done yet.
“Estoy construyendo la mejor version de mi.”
(I am building the best version of myself.)
That would be lethal.
